Glebar, Ramsey, NJ-Off-line dressing of grinding wheels allows manufacturers to use their grinding equipment for production, reducing preparation time, improving quality and ultimately increasing output. The manual contour dresser depends on the operator and is inconsistent, which affects the grinding quality and increases the scrap rate. The use of contour dressers usually requires more frequent dressing, which reduces the life of the grinding wheel and increases consumption costs.
Glebar’s DM-9CNC grinding wheel dressing machine is a stand-alone machine that enables the operator to dress the grinding wheel while the grinding machine is in production. The numerical control system can be used for grinding wheels with diameters of 9 inches and 10 inches, and can dress the precise contours in glass grinding wheels. The shape can be converted from CAD drawing to G code, and DM-9CNC can read G code to form a grinding wheel. In addition, for simpler geometric shapes, the operator can input the outline of the dress in the form of a table on the 15-inch touch screen HMI. The diamond-plated dressing roll is powered by a high-speed brushless servo motor, which can provide high torque up to 10,000 RPM and closed-loop speed control. In addition, the two-axis servo-driven slider uses a 0.1 micron glass scale to accurately position the dressing roller.
“Removing the grinding wheel from the grinder is usually a manual operation that requires skilled technicians, which usually leads to rework and increases installation time. Once the DM-9CNC is installed, it can be unmanned to shape the grinding wheel for your specific application. ”Explained John Bannayan, chief technology officer of Glebar. “This allows the manufacturer to run the grinding wheel for the next job while processing the grinding wheel, thereby reducing preparation time and increasing total output.”
Glebar machines are manufactured to the highest quality and safety standards and are backed by a 24/7 customer service department, which includes a team of technicians, design engineers and customer service representatives. The company also stocks spare stocks of key parts and molds for delivery the next day in the United States, Europe and Asia. It has a dedicated application team engaged in research and development activities to enhance customer processes and push the limits of grinding wheel technology.
In 2020, Glebar acquired Tridex Technology, a leader in electrochemical grinding (ECG) technology solutions. Both companies provide innovative turnkey manufacturing solutions designed to shorten cycle times, maintain quality levels and allow operators to easily set up and run multiple machines.
